Car Giant Limited "Cargiant" is committed to protecting your privacy. This Policy applies to visitors to www.cargiant.co.uk.

This Policy sets out the basis on which any personal data that Cargiant collects from you or that you provide to cargiant, will be processed by Cargiant. For the purpose of the Data Protection Act 1998, the data controller is Car Giant Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under company registration number 01407612 and whose registered office address is at Car Giant Limited, 44 Hythe Road, London, NW10 6RS.

Amendments and updates to this Policy may be made from time to time. Any revisions will be posted on this page so you will always be aware of what information we collect. Please review this page regularly so that you are aware of any changes.

Information collected and what it is used for
Cargiant may collect the following information about you in order to:

a) to generate an overall audience profile of visitors to www.cargiant.co.uk. This information is then used to assist in developing relevant content for www.cargiant.co.uk

b) to deliver more targeted marketing campaigns

c) to provide customers who have supplied their email address, mobile or telephone number and postcode with relevant and timely communications by email, SMS and telephone.

Information you provide when requesting or using services on www.cargiant.co.uk
If you would like to request a call back, book a test drive, add cars to your watchlist, add cars to compare or sign up for estock alerts you will be required to supply your full name, email address, postcode and mobile telephone number. Your contact details are collected to enable us to contact you directly depending on your request.

If you would like to apply for a free online valuation of your car you will be required to supply your VRN (vehicle registration number), approximate mileage, postcode, your name, mobile number (we need this to send a validation code to reveal your valuation) and email address. Your details will be used to provide an estimated online valuation which is based on our assumptions and the limited details about your car you’ve shared with us. We always carry out a full inspection on-site before we offer to part exchange a vehicle or buy a car. If we think that anything in the car’s history or condition will affect its value, including damage, unusual features or customisation, the price that we offer for it will be different to the valuation we gave you online.

If you would like to apply for finance online you will be required to supply your name, email address, telephone number, date of birth, marital status, driving license type, residential status, monthly income, employment type and duration. If you make an application, your details will be held and used in a credit scoring or other automated decision making process when assessing your application.

If you use the chat service to communicate with our customer service team, you may disclose personal information in the course of using the service. All conversations and email exchanges are recorded. Any personal information that you disclose during a live chat or via an online form will be accessible to and processed by and made available to cargiant.

By submitting personal information to us, you are deemed to have agreed to the terms set out above regarding the use of your personal information.

Where we store your personal data
Cargiant will take all reasonable steps to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

All information (except Payment Card information) you provide to cargiant is stored on cargiant’s secure servers. 

Once cargiant has received your information, cargiant will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorised access.

Disclosure of your information
We may disclose your personal information to third parties as follows:

a) When applying for finance an enquiry will be made with Credit Reference Agencies. If you provide false or inaccurate information we will record this. We and other organisations may then use and search these records to check your identity, to prevent fraud and money laundering. You can ask for details about the Credit Reference and Fraud Prevention Agencies from whom and with whom we share this information. Please call us on freephone 0800 084 2002. You have a legal right to these records.

For the purposes of this application you may be treated as financially linked and your application will be assessed with reference to any "associated" records.

If you are a joint applicant or if you have told us of some other financial association with another person, you must be sure that you are entitled to:

  •         disclose information about your joint applicant and anyone referred to by you.
  •         authorise us to search, link or record information at credit reference agencies about you and anyone referred to by you.

An "association" between joint applicants, and between you and anyone you tell us is your financial partner, will be created at credit reference agencies. This will link your financial records, each of which will be taken into account in all future applications by either or both of you. This will continue until one of you successfully files a disassociation at credit reference agencies.

You authorise us to make all enquiries necessary to verify this information to enable us to consider this application. If you apply for insurance your information will be passed to the administrators and the insurers for underwriting, processing claims handling and fraud prevention.

Your personal data which may include sensitive information such as medical details, will be treated in confidence and will not be disclosed to any third parties except where permitted by law or where you have given your consent, however, it may be shared with any company from time to time forming part of the same Group as cargiant, selected third parties and the Insurers (and their administrators) who may also use it for marketing, research, statistical analysis and administration purposes. You may be contacted by mail, telephone, fax, email, automated calling systems or other reasonable method with details of products or services offered by one of the above. If you do not want your details to be used for marketing please call us on 0800 084 2002. Under the terms of the Data Protection Act you have the right to obtain a copy of the information held about you upon payment of the appropriate fee.

By submitting your personal data to us through the Website, you consent to your personal data being transferred outside the EEA. 

b) We may use service providers to help us run the Website or services available on the Website, some of whom may be based outside the EEA. Some of our webpages use plugins from third party platforms (such as the 'Facebook Recommend' or 'Facebook Gestures' function). Information about your visit to the Website may be collected by these third party providers on these pages. If you browse these pages whilst still also logged in to your account on the third party platform, information collected by the third party may be connected to your account on the third party platform. e) If Cargiant or substantially all of its assets are acquired by a third party, in which case personal data held by it about its customers will be one of the transferred assets.

f) For the purposes of the prevention or detection of offences, and/or the apprehension or prosecution of offenders, we may share any information that we collect with the police, other public or private sector agencies, governmental or representative bodies in accordance with the relevant legislation. This will include public authorities, insurance companies, finance companies, automotive advertising companies and/or other agencies.

Marketing communications
When you register with our www.cargiant.co.uk,we ask you whether you would like to receive marketing communications from cargiant via email and/or SMS that we feel may be of interest to you and whether you would like to receive third party information. In order to receive these communications, you will need to opt in during registration.

On occasions cargiant runs promotions in which personal information is collected. We will always ask you if you agree to this. You will always be asked to provide your consent to this use by opting in.

Access to personal information
Information you provide will be used in connection with car purchase, administration, policy renewals and by Cargiant’s finance providers if you use our finance facility.
