Top 5 Staycation Vehicles

| In Motoring Advice

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, many of us are leaving the passports in the drawer this year and taking a staycation instead. If a UK holiday is on your agenda, weather it be a camping trip in the countryside or an extended break to the beach, it is essential you have the right car for the journey. Taking into account comfort for the whole family, economy and space for all the luggage, we have compiled a list of our top 5 staycation cars. All petrol, hybrid cars and diesels registered after September 2015 are exempt from the London ULEZ charge.

Land Rover Discovery Sport

Land Rover Discovery Cargiant

Ideal for the family camping trip in the UK’s typically unpredictable summer weather, the Land Rover Discovery offers a smooth and comfortable drive on the road and the off-road ability to power through the mud to your allocated camping spot.

The Land Rover Discovery seats seven in absolute comfort and with plenty of space to stretch the legs. If not needed, the second and third rows of seats can be folded completely flat, offering an excess of space to store all the camping essentials.

The Discovery is available with a full leather interior, sat nav, Bluetooth, parking sensors and much more.

Nissan Qashqai

Nissan Qashqai Cargiant

Next up on our list is the Nissan Qashqai, the UK’s best-selling SUV. The Qashqai is extremely good value for money, with an Acenta model with sat nav, Bluetooth, alloy wheels and parking sensors available for under £10,000.

Inside, the Qashqai is spacious and seats 5 with ease and comfort. On the road, the SUV is smooth to drive, great to look at and regardless of which fuel type you go for, incredibly economical. Just as with the Land Rover beforehand, the Qashqai’s rear seats can be folded flat offering great storage and luggage space.

The Qashqai is available with 5 seats only, so we’d recommend moving up to the equally impressive 7-seater Nissan X-Trial if you require more seating.

Mercedes C Class Estate

Mercedes C Class Cargiant

Arrive in style with the Mercedes C Class Estate. The C Class not only looks great, it’s fantastic to drive and available with a range of engines, including a hybrid unit. With the rear seats up, the C Class offers 490 litres of boot space, and with the seats dropped, this increasing to over 1,500 litres.

The engine options consist of a 170bhp 2.2-litre diesel unit capable of 64.2 mpg and 184bhp 2.0-litre petrol unit generating 47.9mpg. The plug-in hybrid option is a 293bhp 2.0-litre petrol motor, which returns a staggering 134.5mpg!

There are no excuses for getting lost as all of Cargiant’s current range of C Class Estates benefit from sat nav. Other features found on the majority of these cars include a leather interior, heated seats, parking sensors and alloy wheels.

Toyota Auris Estate

Toyota Auris Cargiant

We stick to estate cars for our next staycation car, the Toyota Auris Estate. The Auris is a spacious vehicle that benefits from a fantastic 1.8-litre self-charging hybrid engine. The engine is combined with a smooth automatic gearbox and returns over 65mpg and only 99 g/km Co2.

Just as the Mercedes C Class mentioned earlier, space in the Auris is plentiful. The boot size is a generous 530 litres with the rear seats up and a whopping 1,658 litres when folded down.

Features available through the Auris range include sat nav, parking sensors, reverse camera, Bluetooth, alloy wheels and climate control.

The final vehicle on our list is the Seat Alhambra, an extremely comfortable and spacious 7-seater. Both middle and rear rows of seats can be folded to leave a flat storage and luggage compartment, capable of taking items up to 2.95m long.

The Alhambra is available with a 150bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine capable of 56.5 with a manual gearbox or 54.3mpg with an automatic transmission. The majority of Alhambra’s benefit from Bluetooth, parking sensors, alloy wheels and climate control.
